Djibouti condoles death of activist in Mogadishu

Djibouti President, Ismail Omar Guelleh has mourned the death of Somali activist killed in Mogadishu last week.

Almaas Elman was last Wednesday shot dead near Halane compound in Mogadishu.

In a statement, Djibouti Embassy said President Gueleh extended his condolences to the President of Somalia.

“The embassy represents its compliments to the ministry of foreign Affairs and international cooperation and has the honor to forward, following the saddened death Almas Elman, the most sincere condolences of the president of the Republic of Djibouti, H.E.M. Ismail Omar Guelleh to his brother, the president of the Federal Republic of Somalia, H.E.M. Mohamed Abdullahi Farmajo as well as the whole family of the deceased and to the Somali people,” the statement reads in part.

Somali government condemned the shooting death of human rights activist Almaas Elman.

The government vowed to launch a stern investigation into the incident saying it will bring those behind the murder will be arrested and prosecuted.

African Union Mission in Somalia (AMISOM) said last Friday in cooperation with the Somali government, it had commenced investigations into the killing of Almaas Elman.
Almaas was laid to rest last Friday.
