Somalia’s Ministry of Interior and Federal Affairs has laid out procedures for new Jubbaland regional parliamentary and leadership elections.
A press statement from the Ministry on Sunday evening said the process that led to the election of new Jubbaland parliament members that concluded on 22nd August was unlawful and there is need to start afresh the process.
“The election of second Jubbaland parliament and leadership on August was illegal and against the guidelines of the Federal Interior Ministry.”
The Government reiterated its calls that it will not recognize results of elections held back August.
” The Ministry will therefore not recognize the outcome of the process.”
For free, fair and credible process to be accepted by all political factors with grievances the Ministry called for the review of the tribal elders list responsible for the selection of the members, implementation of the of what it termed as correct election process of the members of the regional parliament, terms and conditions for presidential candidates and the house speakers.
The Federal Government further proposed the setting up of a reconciliation committee to work towards resolving grievances among various political groups in Jubbaland state following the experience gained from Galmudug reconciliation conference.
Meanwhile a press statement by Jubbaland authorities has condemned the move by the Federal government terming it as illegal.
