Somali government has extended Mogadishu’s curfew hours in stiffer measures to contain the CoviD-19 spread.
In a press conference, Police chief, Abdi Hassan Mohamed said the government has revised curfew hours of 8:00pm – 5:00am.
“Starting the first night of Ramadan, we decided to increase the hours of the curfew by one hour. The new curfew will now start one hour early, at 7:00pm,” he said.
The government also directed restaurants to operate until 7pm and the serve the public with take away services.
“It is prohibited the restaurants to operate as usual during day, but in respect to Ramadan and Ifar, we allow the restaurants to sell take away foods until 7pm,” the Commissioner said.
Announcement comes barely a week after the government imposed a nighttime curfew in the capital.
The curfew which came into effective on April 15 has been in place in the hours between 8:00pm and 5:00am local time.
The curfew has affected traffic and businesses. The government exempted curfew from media and paramedics.
No date has been set for lifting the curfew.
The country’s Coronavirus related deaths stand at 14 and over 280 other are fighting for their lives.
