Unknown assailants have shot dead five religious school teachers in Rage Gelle district in the Middle Shebelle region on Thursday. Two others were wounded in the attack.
According to an eyewitness, the heinous attack happened while the Quran teachers were on revision sessions. Two brothers were among those killed.
According to local officials, the attack is linked to tribal clashes that frequently happen in the area among the pastoral communities over a land dispute.
Authorities said they are investigating the case and pursue perpetrators.
In May this year nine health workers were killed by men dressed in military uniforms in Galoley near Bala’d district in the Middle Shabelle region.
A fact-finding committee was established by Hirshabelle state authorities to unearth those behind the attack.
