Somali President, Mohamed Abdullahi Farmajo held talks with Turkish counterpart, Rajjab Tayyib Erdogan at the sideline of the United Nations General Assembly in New York on Wednesday.
The two leaders discussed ways to further boost already existing strong historic diplomatic relations between Mogadishu and Ankara.
President, Farmajo said his government will be committed to strengthening relations with the Turkish state.
“We remain committed to strengthening our Somali-Turkish bond of brotherhood which has always stood the test of time.” Farmajo tweeted after the meeting.
Somalia and Turkey developed close diplomatic ties backed by the defense and humanitarian support from Ankara since the visit of Erdogan in Mogadishu on August 2011.
Turkey trains Somali armed forces to boost peace and stability in the strategic Horn of the African nation.
It helped Mogadishu rebuild key economic generating structures like Aden Abdulle International Airport and Mogadishu Seaport which saw improve economic in the past years.
Meanwhile, President Farmajo held talks with Belgian Prime Minister, Charles Michel at the sideline of UNGA.
The two leaders discussed Belgium and EU support for the Somali reconstruction process.
