Ethiopian troops in Somalia’s southern region Gedo have clashed heavily armed al-Shabaab fighters.
Reports indicated the heavy fighting flared up after al-Shabaab ambushed the convoy.
The fighting which is ongoing is taking place in a remote area between Bohol-Bashir and Luq town.
The group ambush on the Ethiopian convoy around 11 am local time (0830 GMT) when Al-Shabaab fighters exploded a bomb and then opened fire, according to local residents.
The exact casualties of the fighting is yet unclear.
Al-Shabaab claimed the responsibility for the attack saying its fighters killed several Ethiopian soldiers.
AMISOM and Ethiopian have not yet commented on the attack.
