Somalia’s newly launched education curriculum for secondary schools contains some error which especially form geography text book reduces the coastline of the horn of Africa nation to 2,800km.
The country has the longest coastline in Africa which stretches 3333km.
Somali education ministry has acknowledged that there are some errors in the curriculum following outrage by the netizens and the public after several face posts showed the excerpt of the textbooks with figure.
In a statement, the government said it would be reviewed as soon as possible.
“We apologize for any inaccuracies in the first edition, especially the current error in fourth grade high school geography, regarding the length of the Somali sea,” the ministry said in a statement.
This year, the horn of Africa nation launched a new education curriculum for both primary and secondary schools across the country to ensure access to quality education for its youthful population.
Following the collapse of the central government in 1991, private schools came together under what they called umbrellas which administered choice curriculum and exams.
Most of the schools used either Kenyan, Sudanese or Saudi Arabia systems.
Most schools in the country still operate under the same umbrellas and issue certificates.
However, with the introduction of government administered exams in 2015, the number of students sitting for the standardized tests has risen significantly.
