A chartered plane carrying the body of late Mogadishu mayor, Abdirahman Omar Osman arrived on Sunday in Mogadishu from Doha, where the mayor died.
Mourners gathered at the main Mogadishu airport before the arrival of the plane.
Somali President, Mohamed Abdullahi Farmajo and prime minister, Hassan Ali Kheire also attended.
The mayor will be laid to rest in Mogadishu later today.
Abdirahman Omar Osman died at a hospital in Doha, Qatar where he was undergoing treatment.
Late mayor and 6 other people were seriously injured in a suicide bombing attack at Mogadishu municipality premises last week.
Al-Shabaab claimed the responsibility for the attack which is suspected to have been executed by a female.
Al-Shabab said the suicide bomb was aiming at an American who is the new United Nations envoy to Somalia, James Swan.
Swan had left the office just minutes earlier before the blast hit the office of the mayor.
