An air strike, suspected to be American, has destroyed Al-Furqaan Radio Station belonging to al-shabaab militant group in Lower Shabelle region.
According to sources, the radio station which broadcasts daily news about the attacks carried out by the rebels against government sites was destroyed last night after missiles hit Kunya-barow town controlled by al-shabaab.
The reports say the radio station was one of the target sites of the attack, adding that the station’s base was completely destroyed, and all those who were inside were killed.
US mission in Africa which frequently targets al-shabaab and its bases has not yet commented on the latest attack.
Somali and US governments have recently been carrying out airstrikes to target al-Shabaab bases.
Last week, U.S. Africa Command conducted an airstrike targeting an al-Shabaab compound in the vicinity of Saakow, southern Somalia.
According to statement by US, the strike damaged the compound and several al-Shabaab fighters fled, thwarting nefarious activity.
Somali military backed by AMISOM troops have been fighting al-Shabaab fighters for the past one decade, forcing al-Shabaab to vacate many towns including the capital.
The group has shifted its attacks to hit and run tactics. Al-Shabaab also carried out deadly bomb attacks in major town.
