The presidential and parliamentary elections will not be delayed, Somali prime minister, Mohamed Hussein Roble confirmed Wednesday hours after international partners called for reduction of political tensions.
In a brief statement, PM Roble has called Somali people to unite efforts aimed at realising peaceful election while removing all obstacles on the way.
“On behalf of the National Consultative Council (NCC), I confirm to the Somali people and the international partners, that election process will be fast-tracked,” PM Roble said.
PM Roble has ordered Security Forces to enhance the security of the horn of African nation.
“I instruct the security forces to strengthen the country’s security and stability, protect the rights of the citizens and be watchful to any action that harms individual freedom and basic human rights of the Somali people,” the statement reads in part.
The remarks of the PM come hours after international partners called on Somalia’s leaders to work together to advance the implementation of the 27 May Agreement toward the holding of elections, recognizing the progress made to date by the National Consultative Council under the effective leadership of Prime Minister Mohamed Hussein Roble.
