Somalia’s elite forces have nabbed an al-Shabaab commander in a covert operation on the outskirts of Somali capital.
In a statement, Somali military said the forces launched operation in Wanlaweyn town following tip off by public.
During the operations, forces succeeded to capture the operative who had been in the town for months.
The militant commander was identified Mohamud Mohamed Sheikh Ali.
The operation comes amid Somali military intensified the fight against al-Shabaab in central and southern Somalia.
This week, Somali military claimed to have killed over fifth al-Shabaab fighters following fierce fighting in Mudug region.
On their side, al-Shabaab also claimed to have overran SNA base in Ba’adweyn and seized military vehicles.
