US ambassador to Somalia, Donald Yamamoto is expected to be replaced after being in office for less than two years, US rep hinted.
In a video, Congresswoman Karen Bass, the Chairwoman of the Congressional Subcommittee on Africa is heard referring Yamamoto as former ambassador, throwing weight behind number of rumours claiming that US would replace its envoy in Somalia.
“Although Somalia postponed its election planned for February, I agree with “Former” US ambassador to Somalia Ronald Yamamoto, that the election should go forward as soon as possible to prevent backlash and increase instability instability in the country and the region,” Congresswoman said.
Yamamoto who has been serving the office July 2018, had played very important role efforts to end political gridlock in Somalia.
Yamamoto previously held top diplomatic positions in Eritrea, Ethiopia and Djibouti.
He has nearly four decades of experience in U.S. Foreign Service.
He attended Columbia College, at Columbia University, in New York.
His graduate degree in international affairs and language studies prepared him for his career in diplomacy where, at the State Department, he has received four Superior Honor awards for exceptional service.
