The United Arab Emirates has on Wednesday delivered COVID -19 prevention supplies to Kismayo, the interim administrative capital of Jubbaland state of Somalia.
Officials from Jubbaland ministry of health received the seven tons of medical kits which mainly include personal preventive equipment for health workers, face masks, and gloves.
“We received a donation, from UAE Aid, to support the COVID-19 response in Jubaland. We are grateful to the UAE for the generosity and brotherhood illustrated through this gift to the people of Jubaland.” The Jubbaland ministry of health tweeted.
UAE ambassador to Somalia, Mohammed Ahmed Othman Al Hammadi, said the donation is part of his country’s efforts to curb the spread of the deadly virus in Africa.
“The medical assistance sent to Jubaland, Somalia today affirms the UAE leadership’s keenness to support international efforts to combat the COVID-19 virus, particularly in African countries. This aid also aims to provide urgently needed medical supplies to thousands of medical professionals treating Somali patients and confronting the pandemic.”
Last week Qatari ambassador to Somalia Hassan Hamza toured Kismayo to inaugurate new development projects implemented by his government.
