Turkey will provide additional equipment to Somalia in it’s bid to curb the spread of coronavirus.
Ankara announced the delivery of another consignment containing ICU beds which will arrive in the country on Tuesday.
The Turkish embassy in Mogadishu confirmed that two flights carrying the supplies will arrive in Mogadishu on 5th May while vowing to continue supporting Somalis.
“There will be two additional cargo flights on the 5th of May which will bring mainly ICU beds. Turkey will continue to support her Somali brothers and sisters.” The embassy said on Saturday.
Somali government officials led by Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation Minister, Ahmed Isse Awad and Health and Social Service counterpart, Dr. Fowziya Abikar Nur received the donation of ten ventilators, 20,000 diagnostic testing kits, 40,000 surgical masks, 10,000 N95 masks and 20,000 protective coveralls delivered by Turkish air force plane at Aden Abdulle International Airport.
Somali President, Mohamed Abdullahi Farmajo thanked his counterpart, President Rajab Tayyip Erdogan for the much-needed health support.
” The Government and the people of the Federal Republic of Somalia led by H.E President Farmaajo deeply appreciate the brotherly intervention of the Republic of Turkey and H.E President Erdogan. The delivered kits are indeed key to Somalia’s efforts to contain COVID19.” Villa Somalia Communications Director, Abdinur Mohamed said in a tweet.
