Southwest state leader Abdiaziz Hassan Lafta-garen has called for urgent action to support people in Hudur town to avert a further deterioration of the situation.
Al-Shabaab has isolated Hudur and many other towns in Bakool from other towns in the country and have been blocking humanitarian assistance from reaching vulnerable populations there.
Lafta-garen who visited the town today has held talks with the local authorities and the elders to discuss the deteriorating situation in the town.
“Today I visited Hudur, and I appeal to the FGS, UN Agencies and Humanitarian Partners, & Donors, for an urgent humanitarian intervention to save lives. Bakool faces a serious food security as a result of the Al Shabaab blocked,” he said in a Twitter post.
Since 2012 Hudur, the administrative capital of Bakool in Somalia, has been under siege from Al-Shabaab.
In 2018, Al-Shabaab group killed six traders and burnt eleven trucks which were carrying food to Hudur town.
The group also carried out deadly attacks on the town.
