The talks between Somaliland’s political opposition parties and the ruling party have collapsed following a disagreement between the participants.
The talks were aimed at resolving the disputes between the political parties over the upcoming elections.
Speaking at a press media held by the opposition parties, UCID chairman Faisal Ali Warabe and Waddani chairman Hirsi Ali Haji Hassan accused Somaliland leader Musa Bihi Abdi of undermining the talks between the parties.
Bihi was also accused of forcing the ruling party to withdraw entirely from talks between parties.
“We asked the elders how things were going and what kind of outcomes they had for us; unfortunately, they had no results from the President. He withdrew the trust he had previously given to the mediators” the parties said.
Hirsi said the President’s decision demonstrates that he has lost all confidence in anyone as an impartial mediator since dissolving the mediation committee.
Somaliland, a region in northern Somalia had declared to have seceded from the rest of the Horn of Africa nation in 1991 following the collapse of the central government led by the late Mohamed Siyad Barre.
Despite the relative peace in the region, Somaliland has not yet gained international recognition.
