Somalia will respect ICJ case postponement, Deputy PM

The Federal Government of Somalia has said it has no option but to respect the International Court of Justice decision to postponed maritime case with Kenya.

Deputy Prime Minister, Mahdi Mohamed Guled said despite earlier objection the horn of the African nation has no option, but to adhere to international norms.

“Our argument was based on justice delayed justice denied and call for peaceful and just hearing of the case that paves way for fairness to the people of Somalia.” The Deputy Prime Minister said during National Television address on the maritime case.

The Hague based court rescheduled the maritime border dispute case between the two neighboring countries to 15 March 2021 over what the global Coronavirus pandemic.

Mogadishu, previously oppoNairobi’srobi requests postponement arguing that the case had already been delayed twice before and that the court could hold proceedings via video conference, which would allow Kenya’s lawyers to make their case from respective location.

The two countries are at loggerheads over oil-rich rich water border of about 100,000 square kilometers triangle separating the two nations.
