The Federal Government of Somalia has stepped up measures to cab the spread of deadly coronavirus in the country.
The Ministry of health and social services said despite the spread of the virus across the globe there is no known patient with the virus in the country.
A technical committee was set up to closely watch the epidemic as special health centers to quarantine suspected cases were put in place according to health officials.
Health officials in coordination with counterparts from the ministry of transport, civil aviation and immigration deployed extra personnel at all entry ports for screening.
“We put in place health measures with the help from the Ministry of transport, aviation and immigration departments to ensure the safety and wellbeing of the country.” Statement from the Ministry of health and social services said.
The government also said it established cooperation contacts with international organizations such as the World Health Organization (WHO) to avert the global health scare that first originated from the Asian continent.
“The Ministry will conduct a meeting session with international partners in the health sector on 4th March as far as the prevention of the coronavirus is concerned.”
Neighboring countries such as Kenya have also taken bold measures to avoid the spread of the virus from its epicenter in China.
To date, only three cases of infection have been officially recorded in Africa, one in Egypt, one in Algeria and one in Nigeria with no deaths.
