Somalia reschedules national exam to unspecified date over COVID-19

The Government of Somalia has rescheduled the 2019-2020 national examination to unnamed date over COVID-19.

A statement from the ministry of education on Wednesday concluded the 2019-2020 learning timetable which was just four weeks away from the conclusion.

“ The Ministry of Education officially declares the end of the 2019-2020 learning schedule which was 28 days to go.”

It further noted that with no exams the students will be evaluated based on the syllabus coverage before 19th March 2020 when learning activities were banned.

“ The ministry of education will communicate to parents, teachers, and students on the due date of the examination.”

The decision by Prime Minister, Hassan Ali Kheyre led the government is precipitated by the alarm in the region over the spread of coronavirus.

The government is expected to take extra measures to curb the pandemic.

Eight people including three foreign nationals have tested positive in Somalia.

A 58-year-old man with no travel history was found positive according to the ministry of health updates on Wednesday.

The health authorities are tracking those who made contacts with the patient.
