Somalia is marking the third anniversary since the deadly truck bomb attack on 14th October 2017.
More than 500 people were killed and an unspecified number wounded after the truck full of explosives exploded at a busy intersection in Zobe junction now renamed October 14th street to remember the victims.
Senior Somali government officials are expected to visit the site where a monument was erected to remember those who lost their lives.
Somalis across have paid their tribute to the victims via social media to mark the third anniversary calling for the government to strengthen security ahead of elections in order to prevent similar attacks.
UN office in Somalia also paid tribute to the victims via a statement posted on its online site on Wednesday.
UNSOM said thoughts remain with families of those who lost their lives and survivors.
“The callous brutality of the attack on 14 October 2017 is not forgotten, however, and our thoughts remain with the families of those who lost their lives, as well as with the survivors,” said the UN Secretary-General’s Special Representative for Somalia, James Swan.
