Somalia’s International Partners has organised video conference on Somalia amid the Horn of Africa nation struggling with floods, COVID19 and impact locust.
The conference attended by Somali government representatives from AU, IGAD, UN, EU, Turkey, UK and US has focus on mean to support Somalia over the current challenges.
Somali prime minister, Hassan Ali Kheire briefed the participants the situation of the country and the commitment by his government to overcome the challenges
Mr. Kheire also noted that economic reforms the country achieved despite the outbreak of Coronavirus in the country.
According to statement by the PM office, the international community pledged to continue supporting Somalia to bounce back on its feet.
AU meeting
A separate video meeting organised by African Union has convened labour ministers from the continent.
The meeting is held against the backdrop of the COVID-19 pandemic which has resulted in over 200 000 deaths and more than two million infections globally.
According to Somali labour minister, Sadik Warfa, the conference discussed the impact the coronavirus pandemic and its cushion.
“I participated in a video teleconference organized by @_AfricanUnion with Ministers of Labour & Social Affairs on COVID-19 response as part of the ongoing effort to coordinate an international fight against Coronavirus pandemic. As a result, we must combat and eliminate together,” he said in a Twitter post.
Since last March, Somalia has been struggling to contain spread of Coronavirus in spite of its weak health system.
The country so far 582 with daily records of over dozen new cases of the disease.
According the ministry of health, twenty eight people have been succumbed to the disease since mid March when the first case was confirmed in Somalia.
