Somalia is on the brink to record 1,000 cases since the novel Coronavirus was discovered in the horn of Africa nation.
The nation is three more less than to reach a thousand cases as the records of the virus cases rump up day after day.
During the daily Covid-19 briefing on Saturday, Somali health ministry confirmed country’s coronavirus tally rose to 997 on Saturday, with the announcement of 69 more positive test results.
Health minister, Fowziya Abikar said 69 of the new patients were found to be possitive after ministry tested samples from different parts of the country in the last 48 hours.
Minister tested positive
In Somalia’s regional state in northeastern, Puntland, out of 11 patients who tested positive, two government officials, a minister and a regional MP tested positive.
The officials are undergoing treatment in the administrative capital of Puntland, Garowe.
According to the ministry, four people recovered from the deadly respiratory disease, raising the total number of recoveries to 110.
Abikar said four patients succumbed to the disease in the last 48 hours, raising the total number of deaths to 48.
The Horn of Africa nation has instituted measures to contain the possible spread of COVID-19 including closing schools, banning large gatherings and suspending international and domestic passenger flights.
