Somalia has today started three days for the national mourning of ex-Prime Minister Nur Adde, who died in a London hospital after contracting coronavirus (covid-19).
The country’s flag is flying half-mast as an expression of sorrow.
In presidential decree, President Mohamed Abdullahi Farmaajo said the public will be mourning the former official.
Former Somali Prime Minister Nur Hassan Hussein died on Wednesday in Britain a week after being diagnosed with COVID-19.
Hussein’s family confirmed the death, at King’s College Hospital in London.
The former prime minister served between November 2007 and February 2009 in the transitional government of Somalia.
Adde was prime minister of the Horn of African Nation from November 2007 to February 2009.
Nur Adde also served in the Somali police department, where he rose to the rank of colonel during the government of Mohamed Siyad Barre.
Born in 1930 in Mogadishu, Nur had most of his education in the capital prior to joining the Somali Police Force.
