The Federal Government of Somalia with the help from UN Food and Agricultural Organisation FAO will Coopere on aerial spraying against locust in the country.
With funding from international parters the country has acquired two helicopters to conduct the operations against the desert locust invasion in some parts of the country
According to the Minister for Agriculture, Saed Hussein Eid the operation which is first in the past three decades will be using organic bio pesticide.
” Today we inaugurated the first two helicopters that will be part of th Aerial Spray for Desert Locust Control in Somalia. the first aerial operation in 30 years. Will be using an organic Bio-pesticides.” The Minister said.
The two choppers which first landed in the southern port city of Kismayo on Thursday later arrived in Mogadishu where it was received by Federal Government officials led by the Minister for Agriculture, Saed Hussein Eid.
The helicopters will head to Puntland and Galmudug states to start spraying biopesticide while conducting a survey in the affected areas.
The desert locust which crossed over into Somalia from the gulf via the Red sea last year affected farmlands mainly in south-central Somalia.
