Somalia President, Mohamed Abdullahi Farmajo has today received a five-member delegation led by Kenyan Interior Minister, Fred Matiangi.
Mr. Matiangi and his team were dispatched by President Uhuru Kenyatta to deescalate tension between two neighboring states related to the border.
According to a press statement from the office of the President, the two sides discussed ways to cooperate in boosting border security while strengthening already existing bilateral ties rejuvenated by trade.
Kenyan Interior Minister delivered an invitation note by President Kenya to his counterpart, Mohamed Abdullahi Farmajo to Nairobi to further iron out on ways to further cooperate on security and trade between both countries.
The two countries traded accusations of violating each other’s sovereignty in the past week following clashes along the border between a militia led by fugitive Jubbaland state security minister, Abdirashid Janan, and Somali troops.
On Saturday, the African Union has appealed to both sides to resolve their difference through dialogue.
Kenyan troops are part of African Union peacekeeping troops in Somalia since July 2012 following incursion in southern Somalia in late 2011.
