Somali president arrives in Asmara ahead of tripartite summit

Somali President, Mohamed Abdulahi Mohamed on Monday arrived in Asmara, Eritrea for Tripartite Summit between Ethiopia, Eritrea and Somalia.

According to Yemane Gebremeskel, Eritrea’s Minister of Information, President Isaias Afwerki accorded warm welcome to President Mohammed and his delegation on their arrival at Asmara International Airport.

“President of the Federal Republic of Somalia, Mohamed A. Mohamed, arrived in Asmara at 10:30 a.m today for Tripartite Summit between Eritrea, Ethiopia & Somalia. President Isaias accorded warm welcome to President Mohammed & his delegation on their arrival at Asmara Int. Airport,” the minister said in a Twitter post.

Meanwhile, Villa Somalia confirmed the arrival of the president saying “our aspirations for prosperous and stable Horn of Africa region continues in Asmara as we meet again to discuss propelling development in the region. Glad to join fellow leaders of the Horn; Our host H.E President Isaias Afwerki and H.E PM Abiy Ahmed.”

In a statement, Villa Somalia said the summit between President of the Federal Republic of Somalia, Mohamed Abdullahi Farmajo, President Isaias Afwerki of Eritrea and Prime seeks to strengthen the shared interest of regional cooperation between Somalia, Eritrea, and Ethiopia.

Talks and discussions centered on the development and stability of the three partner states will feature prominently on the summit.

The three leaders will use the summit to review and evaluate the effectiveness of existing efforts and measures to boost transparency in the region, discuss strengthening regional stability geared towards countering terrorism and address challenges surrounding regional Cooperation and integration.

According to the presidency, Farmaajo will share with their Eritrean and Ethiopian counterparts in the summit on the commitments of his government and the people of Somalia especially on strengthening governance and prosperity, share the gains made in the past, while also emphasizing their vital role in the ambitious development process for the region.

The Ethiopian Prime Minister Dr Abiy Ahmed arrived yesterday in Asmara for the summit.

Relations between Ethiopia, Eritrea and Somalia are growing after the Prime Minister Dr Abiy Ahmed came to power in 2018.
