Somali Prime Minister Hassan Ali Kheire on Tuesday reached Barawe town of southern Somalia to officially open the town’s newly constructed airport.
Accompanied by several of his cabinet members, the prime minister attended the inauguration ceremony which was taking place at the Barawe airport.
The Premier cut the ribbon of the new terminal and the runaway during a brief ceremony held at Southwest state administrative capital on Tuesday.
The event was also attended by officials from Southwest state and European union which funded the project.
The security of the ancient port city was heightened by Somali armed forces backed by African Union peacekeepers AMISOM during the stay of the high-level delegation led by Somali first minister, Hassan Ali Kheyre.
The new facility will be key on humanitarian assistance deliverance as well as logistics support to both Somali and African Union troops based in Lower Shabelle region to ease security threats posed by the armed groups along the Mogadishu – Barawe corridor.
