Somalia’s Health Minister, Dr. Fowziya Abikar Nur has appealed to government officials to restrict unnecessary foreign travels in a bid to control the threat of coronavirus in the country.
Dr. Fowziya was speaking during a meeting with Somalia’s international partners on Saturday in an effort to put in place measures to keep the deadly pandemic away from the horn of the African nation borders.
“We advised the Ministry of Labor to limit government officials’ foreign trips if not very important and urgent.” The Minister said.
The Minister of Health also called for the help of the Somali health specialists in the country and across the globe at this critical moment.
“I appeal to Somali health experts across the globe to contact the ministry to play their part, we need their help.” She said.
A Somali citizen who traveled from China via Addis Ababa by Ethiopian airlines tested negative last week in Mogadishu after quarantined at Aden Abdulle International Airport.
Mogadishu is keeping an eye on travelers from neighboring Kenya and Ethiopia which registered first infections.
A Kenyan citizen who traveled back to Nairobi returning from the United States of America via London, United Kingdom tested positive on the 5th March 2020.
While in Ethiopia a Japanese man who arrived in the country from Burkina Faso last week tested positive for the pandemic.
