SNA forces destroy VBIEDs in southern Somalia

Somali forces have destroyed three vehicles packed with explosives in south of the Horn of African nation amid the operations against al-Shabaab intensified in number of regions in the country.

In a statement, Somali information ministry said the Vehicle Borne Improvised Explosive devices (VBIEDs) were destroyed in Kunya-Barow, Jilib, Haramka localities.

The airstrikes were carried out in coordination with Somalia’s international partners, according to the ministry.

“Somali government and its international security partners destroyed separately three vehicles packed with explosives in Jilib, Kunyo-Barrow and Haramka in Southern Somalia,” the statement reads in part.

Last week, Somali National Army (SNA) captured some key areas in Qaycad, in Mudug region, after heavy fighting against Al-Shabaab fighters.

SNA and Galmudug forces recovered a large number of weapons and communication equipment during the operation in central Somalia.

The government’s Danab elite forces and international partners are also targeting terrorist bases in the region, carrying out three airstrikes within three weeks in central Somalia.
