The lawmakers in Puntland state Thursday elected Abdirashid Yusuf Jibril as the successor of the ousted of the state’s parliament Abdihakim Ahmed Dhoobo.
Jibril who competed with two other candidates has garnered 46 votes out of the 63 members present in a second round voting.
His opponent Abdi Jamaal Osman trailed with only 17 votes.
The new speaker who represents Badhan constituency had served as director in the state ministry of information before he joined politics.
He is serving as MP for second terms since when he won parliamentary seat to represent Badhan in Sanaag region.
