President Farmajo will serve till elections take place – spokesperson

President Mohamed Abdullahi Farmajo will lead the nation untill the elections takes place in country, government spokesperson said Tuesday.

In an interview with BBC Somali Service, Mohamed Ibrahim Moalimu, the government spokesperson has lambasted the remarks by the opposition leaders who called for the formation of National Transitional Council to run to the country.

“There is a resolution previously passed by the parliament which articulates that president and the lawmakers will run their offices until new leaders are elected,” Moalimu said.

The spokesperson blamed some politicians for trying to create instability and chaos in the country.

“You know issue will be solved one time after discussion but remember, not to destabilize the country. Stop creating unnecessary tension,” Moalimu urged the unnamed politicians.

He reiterated that the government wishes to hold talks with the opposition figures to end differences over electoral process.

“The government has always been at the forefront in ways to end differences and it is ready to meet with all those who have different perspectives. There is always space for dialogue,” Moalimu said.

The remarks of the spokesperson comes barely a day after the Council of Presidential Candidates (CPC) said they will no longer recognize president Mohamed Farmaajo as the legitimate president of Somalia.

“Starting from 8th February 2021, the council of opposition candidates does not recognise Farmajo as president,” they said in a statement. “The council will not accept any form of mandate extension through pressure.”

A inquiry has been launched to determine the cause of the accident and those responsible, the MAP agency added.

Morocco’s informal labour sector represents about a fifth of non-agricultural economic activity and labourers often work in unsafe conditions.

“How can dozens of workers enter the garage of a residential building for years… without the local authorities noticing?” asked local rights group the Northern Observatory for Human Rights.

Morocco registers some 2,000 deaths each year due to work-related accidents, “one of the highest figures” in the Middle East and North Africa, according to the Economic, Social and Environmental Council (CESE).

Poorly maintained drainage systems often exacerbate flooding in cities.

Fifty people died in floods in 2014 caused by heavy rains in the south of Morocco.
