Opposition umbrella hails Dhusameeb-3 deal

The Forum for National Parties (FNP) coalition has welcomed the elections agreement in Dhusamareb town of central Somalia.

In a statement, the coalition termed the agreement one step forward saying it needs more consultation for its implementation.

Last Friday, Somali president, Mohamed Abdullahi Farmajo and leaders of regional states inked electoral caucus agreement allowing each Caucus of 301 delegates to elect each MP.

The agreement stipulates that delegates will be nominated jointly by national and federal state electoral bodies.

The agreement indicates that deal will have to be approved by House of the People of Parliament.

FNP proposed the formation of a technical committee including political parties and civil society to enable them to participate in the electoral process.

The Coalition stated the need for the input of stakeholders which did not attend the talks in Dhusamareb.

NFP called for efforts to resolve the differences with Puntland and Jubbaland states which did not attend the talks which concluded on Friday.
