Dozens of mosques in Eastliegh, a neighborhood in Nairobi, predominantly inhibited by Somali community closed their doors for worshipers amid the corona virus outbreak in Kenya.
The leaders of mosques in the neighborhood have last night announced that they were directed to suspend all congregational prayers by Kenyan government, a move aimed at curbing the spread of the disease.
The clerics said the mosques will remain closed for an indefinite period.
The announcement came just hours after Kenya confirmed eight more cases of coronavirus bringing the total to 15.
On Sunday, Kenya Health Cabinet Secretary Mutahi Kagwe said the patients, who comprise five Kenyans, two French nationals and a Mexican, have been isolated, as the 363 passenger who came in contact with them are being traced.
Mid this month, the country’s biggest mosque in was closed its doors for worshipers.
