Somalia and the European Union have agreed to enhance their relationship following a meeting in Mogadishu.
Ahmed Isse Awad, Somali Foreign Affairs minister has this morning held talks with EU envoy in Somalia, Nicholas Berlanga.
The meeting which was also attended by the state minister for foreign affairs focused on the relations between Somalia and the EU.
” I hosted EU’s Somalia’s envoy Nicholas Berlanga for a breakfast meeting. We were also joined by Foreign Minister of State Balal Osman and Deputy Minister Mohamud Siraj. We discussed cooperation with the EU, realigning support and regional issues,” the minister said in a Twitter post.
The move comes a day after the EU approved €5 million to support Somalia’s programs aimed at protecting the most vulnerable people, including refugees and displaced persons, and creating favorable conditions for economic and social development.
The fund will be the channel to the EU Emergency Trust Fund for Africa (EUTF) to support COVID-19 preparedness in the Horn of Africa nation.
