Mogadishu mayor and WFP director discuss means to boost local agricultural produce

The Mayor of Mogadishu and Governor of Banadir region, Omar Mohamed Mohamud Finish met with World Food Program (WFP) Country Director, Cesar Arroyo on Saturday.

The meeting between the two sides focused on cooperation between Banadir administration and UN agency on food production.

“I received WFP Country director, Cesar Arroyo in my office today, we discussed ways to boost food production in the country.” Mogadishu mayor said.

The meeting comes as humanitarian agencies in the country warned against recurring drought and famine that threatened farmers mainly in the Shabelle regions.

The international community called for funding to support the livelihood of those displaced by the famine across the country.

Since the appeal was made the Dayr raining season which runs from October to December has started in most parts of the country.
