Leaders of southerly and northeastern regional states of Somalia are expected arrive in Mogadishu soon for talks with federal government over the fate of the upcoming elections.
Ahmed Mohamed Madobe and Saed Abdullahi Deni of Jubbaland and Puntland states respectively had opposed outcomes of Dhusameeb-3 conference which was concluded this month in central Somalia.
The meeting which convened president Mohamed Abdullahi Farmajo and leaders of Southwest, Galmudug and Hirshabelle states resolved months long stalemate over polls after they inked a deal on a poll model that involves electoral caucuses.
According to a communique, leaders agreed each Caucus of 301 delegates will elect each MP.
The agreement stipulates that delegates will be nominated jointly by national and federal state electoral bodies.
The agreement indicates that deal will have to be approved by House of the People of Parliament.
Following efforts to iron out differences and to mull concerns of the two states, two regional leaders and President Farmajo will have talks in the capital.
Advance security team of both Jubbaland and Puntland states on Saturday and Sunday arrived in Mogadishu on Sunday ahead of the arrival of the leaders.
