Kenya troops under the framework of African Union Mission in Somalia (AMISOM) are expect to be inoculated against the novel coronavirus which ravages the Horn of Africa Nation.
Chief of Defense Forces General Robert Kibochi said about 5,000 Kenyan troops in Somalia will be reached out.
“We shall also ensure that all the 5,000 new recruits in various training centres get the vaccination. This will play a key role in ensuring that none gets infected,” he said.
Kibochi urged Kenyan soldiers to ignore the fake news circulating about the vaccine and take the jab.
“We continue to stress on the importance that prevention is better than cure. I have today taken the jab and you can see there is no any side effect. I look forward to a very relaxed time,” he said.
Kibochi said the soldiers should take advantage of efforts being put in place by the government to protect them since it remains unclear of how long the disease will be around.
“Ignore fake news and take the vaccination, this is a perfect chance to protect yourselves. After vaccination you should also stop the perception that that once vaccinated you drop the guard, you can still be infected with another variant so we must continue to adhere to all the containment measures.
In 2011, the government of Kenya sent its troops to Somalia to fight al-shabaab fighters who were accused of carried out abductions and killings in Kenya’s coastal area.
The troops from the East Africa joined AU troops in Somalia to restore peace and support Somali forces liberate al-Shabaab control towns and villages in southern Somalia.
