Kenya launches security operations in Lamu

The government of Kenya has dispatched hundreds of its security agencies in Lamu County to hunt down Al-Shabaab militants who Sunday burnt two construction vehicles in an attack near H Young & Co’s camp at Milihoi in Lamu County.

Lamu County Commissioner Irungu Macharia said the security forces are combing several areas in Lamu to smoke out al-Shabaab.

“The forces are on the heel of the perpetrators. Locals are needed to cooperate with the forces and provide the available information,” he said.

The commissioner assured security on the road, saying patrols had been intensified across the county.

“Enough security agencies, including the KDF and police, have been deployed to the area to pursue the attackers,” he said.

“There is no cause for alarm as security has been optimised.”

Macharia added that the militants attempted to invade a police camp situated adjacent to an establishment belonging to a road construction company.

The police boss further added that there were, however, no casualties from the incident.
