The government of Ethiopia has withdrawn hundreds of its troops from Somalia for the first time since the country’s troops joined AMISOM.
Ethiopia has thousands of soldiers in Somalia who help the government defeat al-Shabaab fighters.
According to sources who spoke Bloomberg, the soldiers started moving back to Ethiopia last week.
The sources confirmed that forces are meant to be reinforcement for the soldiers fighting to defeat Tigray militias in the Tigray region.
The Ethiopian government has not publicly commented on the aim of the withdrawal.
The military has been in fighting Tigray militias for the second consecutive week.
The military said it had defeated and liberated two major towns and weakened the militias.
The move comes amid the Ethiopian parliament appointed interim to administer for the region.
