Gunmen shot dead deputy traffic commander in Galkacyo

Unknown assillants have shot and killed the deputy traffic commander of Mudug region, Mohamed Farah in Galkacyo on Friday night.

Farah was killed outside mosque following Isha prayers by waiting gunmen.

The killers escaped the scene of the crime immediately.

Security agencies have launched operation at the nearby neighborhoods in an attempt to arrest the culprits.

The city of Galkacyo is administered by Galmudug and Puntland states of Somalia respectively.

Joint police patrol supported by the UNSOM was established years ago to strengthen peace and security in the area to end tribal skirmishes.

It is not immediately clear the reason behind the attack but armed group al-Shabaab and ISIS fighters who are active in Puntland mountainous areas have previous carried out attacks against security agencies and government officials.
