Unidentified gunmen have killed HirShabelle Agriculture Minister Abdikadir Abuukar Karani on Monday evening in Jowhar town.
The minister who is also a regional MP was killed outside mosque near his home, according to sources.
“He prayed Isha prayer at the mosque, men armed with pistols have accosted him and started shooting at him, he died on the spot,” said a local resident who spoke to the media.
The assailants escape the scene before the security forces arrived.
No group claimed the responsibility for the attack but it has hallmarks of al-Shabaab assassination.
Karani was among ministers recently appointed by state president Abdi Ware.
Jowhar, is the administrative capital of Hirshabelle State located 90 kilometers north of the capital Mogadishu.
