The government of Egypt has pledged support for Somali government’s fight against terror groups in the Horn of Africa nation.
In a statement on Saturday, the Egyptian Foreign Ministry has expressed solidarity with Somalia and its people saying Egypt will stand with Somalia.
“Egypt’s government and people stand in solidarity with their Somali counterparts against all forms of violence, extremism, and terrorism,” said the ministry.
The North African Arab country condemned the recent deadly suicide attack that targeted the offices of the Mayor of Somalia’s capital Mogadishu.
It said conveys well-wishes and condolences to the people and government of Somalia.
“We wish Allah’s mercy upon those who lost their lives and wish a speedy recovery to Mr. Abdirahman Omar Osman,” it said.
The attack claimed lives of more than ten people including three district commissioners and local government officials.
Over 12 other people including Mogadishu Mayor, Abdirahman Omar Osman we’re injured in the blast suspected to have executed by a female suicide bomber.
The responsibility for the explosion was claimed by al-Shabaab saying the target was UN envoy who earlier had a meeting with the mayor.
