Somali deputy Prime Minister, Mahdi Mohammed Gulaid is today expected to hold talks with Ugandan President, Yuweri Kabuto Museveni.
High level delegation led by Gulaid has arrived in Kampala on Wednesday for first time since country’s new cabinet was announced this week.
Among the delegates accompanying the deputy prime minister is Somalia’s first lady, Sainab Moalim.
“First lady & I arrived in Kampala today and had a great meeting with President Kaguta Museveni regarding the enhancement of our two countries’ bilateral relations,” said Deputy PM in a Twitter post.
Gulaid and his delegation will today attend inauguration of new sugar factory built by Somali business tycoon.
“Tomorrow We shall commission the opening of Atika Sugar Factory, a testament to Somali’s entrepreneurial skills,” he said.
Atiak Sugar Factory in Amuru district is co-owned by Horyal Investments Holding Company Ltd and the government of Uganda.
The factory was erected in Gem Pachilo village, Atiak sub-county four years ago.
It aims at creating and sustaining farmers’ livelihoods devastated by two-decade long conflict between government and LRA rebels.
According to Dr. Amina Hersi Moghe, the Chief Executive Officer – CEO of the company, the factory will have 1,650 metric tonnes daily crushing capacity.
