A Safaricom telecommunication mast was destroyed on by suspected Al-Shabaab militants in Mandera County.
Heavily armed suspected Al-Shabaab militants invaded Shir village on the Kenya-Somalia border on Wednesday night and preached to the residents for about five hours.
A local resident who spoke to the media on condition of anonymity said the militants went to the area chief’s home but did not find him.
He said the militants hit the communication mast with RPG and completely destroyed it.
The development comes barely hours after the militants attacked the ambulance ferrying a pregnant woman to hospital and killed her husband.
The ambulance was its the way to Elwak Referral Hospital when it came under attack by the gunmen.
The fighters first hit the vehicle using an Improvised Explosive Devise which set fire on the ambulance.
The husband of the expectant mother died in the attack while two others including the nurse and driver on board were injured in the incident.
