President Mohamed Abdullahi Farmaajo has sent a message of congratulations to his French counterpart Emmanuel Macron following his re-election in the just concluded General Election.
The President said Macron’s re-election demonstrates the deep love, confidence and trust the people of French have in his leadership.
“The government and people of Somalia congratulate you President-elect Emmanuel Macron on achieving your second term after winning in the FrenchElections2022. France is an important ally & friend of Somalia & we look forward to building on this strong relationship,” Farmaajo said in a statement.
With nearly all votes counted, Macron was on course for a solid 58.6 percent of the vote, according to interior ministry figures.
Macron, 44, made history by becoming the first French president to be re-elected in 20 years
Le Pen, the candidate of the far-right National Rally party (Rassemblement National or RN), received 41.4 percent of the votes, the highest in her last three unsuccessful presidential bids.
