Somali government has ordered with immediate effect that the civil servants working in offices be reduced following the re-emergence of COVID-19 this month.
In a letter addressed to all ministries and government agencies, Somali labour ministry urged the state run agencies allow their staff to work from home.
“Only directors who are essential for the operations should work at the offices, the rest will be working from home,” the statement reads in part.
The directive comes COVID-19 infection rate has been rising for the past few days.
In a statement, the country’s health ministry said cases have increased 52% in February compared to January.
The total confirmed cases of coronavirus in Somalia hit 5,373 including 92 cases for the last 24 hours in the capital.
The virus so far killed 163 people in Somalia.
Somalia confirmed the first case of the pandemic in March last year.
