Somali government has reiterated the call to hold consultative forum in the administrative capital of Puntland state, Garowe.
In a televised statement, Somali information minister, Osman Abukar Dubbe insisted that the forum to place in Puntland saying the town is peaceful to host the meeting over electoral process dispute.
“The government is committed to hold elections in the country. We have been getting information calling for change forum venue, We still repeat that the consultative forum to hold in Garowe, a town known for its peace,” he said.
The minister welcomed outcome of UN Security Council meeting over Somalia which concluded this week.
The UN Security Council urged Tuesday night to “resume their dialogue urgently and work together, in the interests of the people of Somalia.”
“The statement encouraged leaders to “reach consensus on the arrangements for the conduct of inclusive elections with a view to holding them as soon as possible,” the AFP reported.
President Farmajo’s call for forum was welcomed by both Jubbaland and Puntland states but asked
the meeting to hold in Mogadishu and not Garowe.
Puntland and Jubbaland leaders Saed Abdullahi Deni and Ahmed Mohamed Madobe respectively had called on the federal government to invite other political stakeholders to attend the meeting.
