Somalia has shown its interest in securing a top position on African Union Commission.
Mogadishu is pushing for its ambassador to China Awale Kulane to secure the post of Deputy Chairperson of the AU Commission, reliable sources have confirmed.
It is the 1st time Somalia is running for this post
The election which is scheduled to be held in February next year has also attracted Dr. Hasna Barkat Daud from neighboring Djibouti.
The horn of the African nation’s quest for positions at the international organization has increased in recent years as part of a new foreign policy backed by relative peace and security experienced in the country.
In late June, Somalia’s ambassador to the UN Abukar Dahir Osman Baale has been elected as Vice President of the UN General Assembly.
Somalia has held a similar position three times with the last being 1986.
The move was a major diplomatic success for Somalia as it reestablishes itself in the global arena.
