Kenyan government on Monday said it has not received any official communication from Mogadishu requesting Kenya’s ambassador to leave for Nairobi for consultations.
In a statement, Kenya foreign minister has dismissed what it termed as “claims” by Somalia that it is meddling in Somalia’s internal affairs.
“However, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs’ attention has been drawn to a press statement purportedly released by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Federal Republic of Somalia,” a statement from the ministry said.
According to a statement on Sunday evening by Somalia ministry, the horn of Africa nation expelled Kenya’s ambassador and recalled its own envoy from Nairobi after accusing its neighbour of interfering in the electoral process in Jubbaland.
“As a result of the Kenyan government’s political interferences in the internal affairs of Somalia, the regional President of Jubbaland has reneged on the election agreement that was reached on the 17th September 2020 in Mogadishu,” the Somali foreign ministry said in a statement.
