The leader of Hirshabelle state, Mohamed And Waare has announced his resignation from the office ahead of the expected presidential of the state.
In a statement, Ware said he decided to leave office to pave the way for fresh minds to lead the state.
He stated that he was not satisfied with the way the traditional and other stakeholders of Hirshabelle state carry out the election process.
“As the country is in transitional period, I proposed the selection of the regional lawmakers to be postponed for a month until the federal lawmakers are selected so as to give the state chance to decide its fate,” he said.
The leaders said the elders, opposition figures from his state as well as the federal government are rushing to hold the region’s election in the midst of a national election.
Waare said his call for delaying the region’s election and to give all stakeholders the chance to participate in decisions was ignored.
The parliamentary leadership election is slated for Wednesday this week.
